NETWORK USER GROUP OF S.A. KWA­ZULU NATAL CHAPTER

Minutes of Annual General Meeting Held at Riverside Hotel on Thursday, 18 May 2000 at 8:30am.

Present: Terry Lewis ­ Acting National President Stan Lewis ­ Acting Natal Chairman Rina Solomon ­ Minutes Secretary Rest of the members as per attendance sheet.

The meeting started with a breakfast at 8:30am.

1. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT

Terry Lewis reported that he thought that the Committee did a fine job over the last year, and that the members have grown during this year. He then gave an overview of the meetings held during the year and felt that some meetings had a positive turnout, the topics were well presented and of interest to the members. He thanked Siddique for his support the group and said that the group will miss Monaj Bhoola, who was transferred to Johannesburg, very much, but in spite of this still wish him everything of the very best. He also said that the group will miss Mike Currin, who went to London, quite a bit but also wished him everything of the very best. He thanked the committee and Rina for their support during the year.

2. ELECTIONS

A motion was passed that the standing committee be retained and that some nominations came from the floor.

3. PRESENTATION BY SIDDIQUE SATAR ­ NOVELL SA

He gave an overview of Novell, their position in the market place, the challenge presented to Novell as well as the challenges they face. Their relavance to the future of SA and the need to bring the best products into the market place. Due to strategic research they can see where Novell fits into the market place. He says that Novell sees their future in Internet, making e­Business and E­Commerce and firewalls a major part of their business. He said that their company expanded during 1984 ­ 1996 in the NDS. 1997 ­ 1999 with Network Management. 2000 and beyond will be the period of Netservice Software, not just with Novell but solutions to broader phase in the market place. This will give them a bigger business solution, sees its architectures in Net Services offer to the consumer part of the net bringing value. Work in a Internet environment with security ­ Modular. Geared up to open standards. Integrate with other platforms. He said that the New products will allow 2 business services that is i­chain and E­Business to be working together. They are looking for solutions that can be provided by Novell. There is a drastic change of selling in Novell and they will streamline the process for everything that is developed.

3. NUI

Stan Lewis reported that he was quite surprised to see how big NUI is. He said that he came back with many suggestions on how to run a User Group. He said that some areas like San Francisco have about 50 ­ 60 members and then there is areas that have a small membership.

4. BRAINSHARE

Stan reported that BrainShare is much bigger than he expected and showed some internet photos of the lab that was run at BrainShare. Siddique said that due to the fact that BrainShare in South Africa runs later in the year, it gives Novell a chance to sort out the best and most valuable presentations and speakers in South Africa. He also remarked that it would be impossible to have BrainShare in Durban as the bulk of the people attending BrainShare are in Johannesburg. BrainShare will take place on the 26 to 29 September 2000 with Boot Camp being on the 30th.

The meeting closed at 10h00am.
